Welcome to play at Greenside After School Club where children have access to high quality play opportunities and receive exceptional care from staff who are serious about play for its own sake.
Greenside After School Club is a private after school club established by the two owners Tamsin Heath and Karen Brownlee in 1999 in response to a need in the community for high quality after school care.
The after school club operates from Abbeyhill Baptist Church on Elgin Terrace and is registered to care for 44 children from
Leith Walk Primary School and Abbeyhill Primary School during term-time.
During school holidays the club is open to
children outwith these schools.
We are registered with the Care Inspectorate and The Scottish Social Services Council and all our staff are vetted though
Disclosure Scotland. Our ethos has evolved over the years and now places the importance of play in the lives of children and our role in supporting play
at the centre of our service to children and families.
We aim to achieve this vision by having an ethos underpinned by our values of: the importance of play in the lives of children, respect, honesty, equality & fairness, kindness cooperation, teamwork and committed staff. Playworkers at Greenside After School Club are all fully qualified and follow a playwork methodology underpinned by the Playwork Principles (PPSG, 2004), Best Play: What Play Provision Should Do For Children (NPFA 2000), and The First Claim: A Framework For Quality Assessment (Hughes et al, 2001) which aim to support and enable children to play on their own terms.
Our staff team have many years experience in playwork and childcare and continually develop their skills, knowledge and understanding through on-
going learning, development and training. This helps us keep up to date with current legislation and best practice guidance.
All staff are PVG and SSSC checked and registered and trained in Child Protection, First Aid, and Food Hygiene.
Both Tammy and Karen are qualified with the PDA level 9 in Childhood Practice. The PDA level 9 meets the benchmark standards for childhood practice
and registration with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) as a Lead Practitioner or Manager.
The PDA covers Leadership and Management; Childrens' Rights, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion; Participatory Partnerships: Working with Families;
Developing Services for Children and Young People; Comparative Play Theories and an Independent Study.
