Welcome to Greenside After School Club – Rated 5 stars by the Care Inspectorate
Welcome to play at Greenside After School Club where children have access to high quality play opportunities and receive exceptional care from staff who are serious about play for its own sake.
Greenside After School Club is a private after school club established by the two owners Tamsin Heath and Karen Brownlee in 1999 in response to a need in the community for high quality after school care. The after school club operates from Greenside Parish Church on Royal Terrace and is registered to care for 40 children from St Marys RC Primary School (East London Street) and Leith Walk Primary School during term-time. During school holidays the club is open to children out with these schools. We are registered with the Care Inspectorate and The Scottish Social Services Council and all our staff are vetted though Disclosure Scotland. Our ethos has evolved over the years and now places the importance of play in the lives of children and our role in supporting play at the centre of our service to children and families.
We aim to achieve this vision by having an ethos underpinned by our values of: the importance of play in the lives of children, respect, honesty, equality & fairness, kindness cooperation, teamwork and committed staff. Playworkers at Greenside After School Club are all fully qualified and follow a playwork methodology underpinned by the Playwork Principles (PPSG, 2004), Best Play – What Play Provision Should Do For Children (NPFA 2000), and The First Claim – A Framework For Quality Assessment (Hughes et al, 2001) which aim to support and enable children to play on their own terms.

What the parents say
‘Every aspect of Greenside After School Club is excellent. The activities are fun and interesting, the staff are always kind and helpful, but best of all my son loves coming, especially to the summer club.’
‘I would condemn bribery in all its forms, but almost routinely have to resort to this to persuade my daughter to leave Greenside After School Club of an evening…’
‘ We have been utterly delighted with the Greenside After School Club. Our son loves his time there and its great that he can mix with kids from different schools and year groups. He can spend his time as he chooses but the staff have lots of fun games and activities for him to join in with. The staff are wholly committed to the children and have provided a very happy and safe environment which is a huge reassurance to us. That and they got a much treasured Pokemon coin back that was traded for far less than its face value 🙂 ‘
‘ Greenside is a warm, friendly and really fun environment where children feel safe and happy. There’s plenty of space for outdoor play, and a variety of options for fun and stimulating (or relaxing!) indoor play. Its a great way to bridge the time between school and the end of a parent’s working day, and a valuable asset to the school community. The staff are amazing and my son loves it!’
‘Greenside is a dream come true of after school clubs! Both my children attend Greenside regularly and have done since p1. Its often difficult to drag them away at pick up time because they’re so at home there. They adore the vast indoor and outdoor space and there are always varies, creative, interesting and fun activities on offer. The wonderful staff are approachable, warm trustworthy, reliable, kind and creative and I’d highly recommend this for anyone in need of an after school club’
‘Our daughter loves going to Greenside; she enjoys in particular the beautiful garden (she makes the most of it!) and the various activities she can choose from. All staff are supportive and friendly and the children are given healthy snacks. We definitely recommend.’
‘Both of my boys are very happy at the club as they have the space and freedom to explore and be creative in a happy and safe environment. They are enjoying making new friends and interacting with their peers. I feel reassured that my boys are surrounded by happy positive carers looking after their welfare when I can’t be with them’
‘My son has been attending the after school club for 3 years now and they have always been fun, friendly and approachable, both with children and parents. The space provided for the children is both safe and interesting with a good mix of outdoor and indoor facilities. I often wish I was part of the team at pick up time as everyone is always having fun and laughing.’
‘My son has been going to Greenside After School Club since we moved to Edinburgh a few years ago. The club is excellent value and he really enjoys going. He is very fond of all the staff members who go above and beyond to interact with all the children and chat with them. I love that the food they provide is healthy and varied for snack. I also love that they try and have them playing outside as much as possible to burn off their energy! The price is excellent and I know my son will be sad when he goes to High School and wont attend the club anymore. I genuinely can’t recommend enough.
‘ Our daughter has been with Greenside After School Club for years; she totally enjoys it. The staff are great and reliable and entertain the children effortlessly.’
‘when my children first started primary school , I was worried about putting them in an after school club. Initially we put them in two different clubs but switched fully to Greenside soon after. Our kids enjoyed the club so much we have left them at the club one day a week even after my wife gave up work so they could continue to go.’
