We are an After School Club which provides a pick up service from St Mary’s RC Primary School (East London Street) and Leith Walk Primary School.
We are registered with The Care Inspectorate and SSSC and all staff are vetted through Disclosure Scotland. Safety is our highest priority but the emphasis is on free play and fun! A copy of all policies and procedures is available upon request. Please read our Play Policy which explains what we aim to provide for your child. Both managers are qualified with a PDA Childhood Practice level 9 qualification. Playworker Katrina holds the Playwork Level 3 qualification and Playworker Audrey holds the Modern Apprenticeship Social Services Children and Young People Award, Level 3. All staff access relevant 1 day training courses regularly as part of the SSSC Post- Registration Training and Learning requirements and further learning is encouraged through accessing relevant information provided by play organisations.
Children are picked up in the playground and escorted to the club just off London road at Greenside Parish Church. Here we use the hall for sports and big group games or just playing games with friends. We also have a quiet room where we offer weekly arts and craft projects as well providing the space for children to choose quieter activities such as making junk art, reading, drawing, lego or relaxing in the cosy corner. Here we sometimes play Wii games (but not every day!) and watch the occasional DVD. There is an enclosed garden, which is a lovely place to play and where we offer the chance for some messy elemental play – we advise you to provide your child with play clothes so that they can enjoy this without worrying about getting uniforms messy.
There are plenty of play opportunities for all children including sports, big group games, arts and crafts, dressing up and role play and toys such as dolls, figures, fort and cars as well as loose parts etc. We believe that providing the support, space and resources to spend unstructured and undirected time playing whatever they choose with friends after a structured day at school is important free time for all children. A light, healthy snack e.g. crackers, breadsticks and cheese, sandwiches, a variety of fruit and milk or water is provided. We can accommodate any dietary requirements or preferences.
